Gabriel and Bryant receive LMC Living Well Award
America Elox , a fifth-grade student at Brookland-Cayce Grammar School No. 1 was chosen to receive the Lexington Medical Center Foundation’s October Living Well Student Award.
It was presented Tuesday morning at the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce October Breakfast meeting by Renee Dooley of the Lexington Medical Center Foundation.
America is 10-years old, and became involved with a program at her school called Girls on the Run (GOTR.) The program taught her how to be confident and joyful through healthy running exercises. “This program is so amazing and has taught me valuable lessons that I am able to share with my family and incorporate in my own life now and as I grow older,” America said.
She encourages girls her age or younger them to join because the program is not about running to stay healthy. It’s about being healthy all the way around – mentally and physically – and simply being comfortable with yourself.

Although, her coaching days are now less intense, she still shares her passion for health and fitness at B-C Grammar No.1.
At her school, she works with the Girls on the Run (GOTR) and Boys Run Hard programs. In addition, she started a running/walking group with other staff members.
