Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the person who was killed in the single-vehicle accident that occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, October 9th.

David William Austin, 44 years old, whose last known address was Broken Arrow, Oklahoma was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Austin was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by a relative.  The pair were traveling west on Longs Pond Road at approximately 01:15 A.M. when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.  The accident was called in when the vehicle accident sensor in the Mercedes vehicle was alerted and local authorities were notified.  The driver was transported to Palmetto Health Richland hospital by Lexington County Emergency Medical Services with serious injuries.

The driver’s condition was reported to be stable by medical personnel at the hospital.Mr. Austin was in the Lexington area visiting family when the accident occurred.  The Lexington County Coroner’s Office as well as the South Carolina Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the accident.
