Earl Williams, former WC mayor, gets early 100th birthday party

The Brookland-Cayce High School alumni threw a 100th birthday party for Mr. Earl Williams, Tuesday.

Williams birthday is not until Sept. 27. It will be celebrated at Brookland United Methodist Church in West Columbia.

But the Brookland-Cayce alumni group that meets monthly at Ocean View Seafood Restaurant in Cayce presented Williams with a cake, and celebrated his birthday, Tuesday.

Williams, former West Columbia mayor and 40-year purchasing agent for Mount Vernon Mills, played football at Brookland High School in 1931.

His daughter is Cathy Rish, wife of former Mayor Mac Rish. Her grandfather – Earl Williams’ father – was also West Columbia mayor. Earl Williams’ grandson, Quinn Rish, was also at the celebration.

Eddy Aull, a BCHS alumni was at the Williams party Tuesday. He said he was a ball boy – in the late 1930s – on the baseball Textile League baseball that Williams played on.
