Airport High grad, USC track star, Jayla Jamison wins 2 silver medals for Team USA

(From USC Athletics) Airport High School graduate and USC track star Jayla Jamison took home a pair of silver medals for Team USA in the 2022 U20 Track & Field World Championships in in Cali, Colombia in August. Jamison captured silver in the 200-meter dash and aided the United States in claiming silver in the 4×100-meter relay added to her legacy on Friday afternoon.

Jamison’s journey to the 200-meter finals began in the preliminary stages when she ran the second-fastest qualifying time with a mark of 23.36, winning her heat by 0.40 seconds. Later in the evening, Jamison punched her ticket to the 200-meter finals, winning her heat yet again. The West Columbia, S.C. native set a new personal record in the semifinals with a time of 23.01, besting her previous mark of 23.02.

Jamison saved her best performance for last, crushing her newly acquired PR with a time of 22.77 in the 200-meter finals 65 on a rain-soaked track to claim the silver medal. Jamison was the highest finisher for the United States in the 200m race, sandwiched between a pair of runners from Jamaica, including Brianna Lyston who won the event with a time of 22.65.

Jamison’s efforts in the 200m race granted her a spot in the 4x100m relay for Team USA. Jamison did not run in the preliminary heats but was first out of the blocks for the United States and helped her team to a time of 43.28 to claim the runner-up finish. Jamaica took home gold in the relay with a time of 42.59, followed by the United States and then host country Colombia (44.59).

In June Jamison won the Women’s 200m – USATF U20 Outdoor Championships. She ran ran a 22.93 to win the women’s 200 meters final at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.
