Scott Wilhide given Tartan Day South’s Order of the Caber
One of the highest honors that can be bestowed by Tartan Day South is the Order of the Burning Caber.
Tuesday night Scott Wilhide was presented with the Order of the Flaming Caber by John Banks, Tartan Day South director. Tartan Day South is a festival of Highlands games held in the spring at the Historic Columbia Speedway in Cayce.
When John Banks started Tartan Day South Scott just had to get involved,” said Beth Willhide, Scott’s wife. Scott is suffering from ALS and Beth read a statement for him. She said her husband, Scottish by heritage, and he was taught to help others from an early age.
She also said he is tenacious. Scott, a banker by trade, has served on the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce Board and as an ambassador.
Banks said Scott came to him and said “I want to help.” Banks also called Scott “one of greatest volunteers.”
Cayce Mayor Elise Partin is a former recipient of The Order of the Flaming Caber.
Tartan Day South was not held in 2020 because of the coronavirus, but Banks said he looks forward to it resuming in March of 2021.
