Shihan Brian Pena was recognized with resolutions from the South Carolina Senate and the South Carolina House, Thursday morning. Pena is the owner of the Karate Dojo on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia.

State Sen. Nikki Setzler and Rep. Micah Caskey presented Pena with the resolutions.

Pena was recognized for his contributions in the martial arts. His martial arts career began in the 1980s.

In January, Pena opened a new 16,000 sq.-ft., two-story complex in Sunset Court in West Columbia. It includes large indoor and outdoor training areas, observations windows, homework stations and a coffee shop.
