Lexington County Coroner identifies victims of 4 fatal incidents
Fire claims the life of man
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died at the scene of a house fire that occurred in the 200 block of Bent Tree Circle in Gaston shortly after 4 A.M. on Sunday,
According to Fisher, Mr. Sollie Keith Kenta Benjamin, 43, of Gaston was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department with the assistance of the State Law Enforcement Division.
Man dies after running off the road
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a single-vehicle collision in the 100 block of Naomi Drive in Gilbert shortly before 10:30 pm on August 19, 2022.
According to Fisher, Mr. Ruben Cabrera, 28, of Gilbert was traveling on Naomi Drive when he failed to navigate a curve, left the road striking an embankment, and overturned. Mr. Cabrera, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
Head-on collision death
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a head-on
vehicle collision in the 500 block of Old Charleston Road in Pelion shortly after 7:30 pm on August 19,
2022.
According to Fisher, Ms. Patricia A. McCutcheon, 61, of Pelion was traveling southbound on Old
Charleston Road when she was struck head-on by a vehicle who was traveling northbound and crossed
the center line into the southbound lane. Ms. McCutheon, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced
dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained. A passenger in the vehicle, who was also wearing a
seatbelt at the time of the accident, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening
injuries. The driver of the other vehicle involved was also transported to a local hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.
The Pelion Police Department with the assistance of the South Carolina Highway Patrol and their MAIT
team continues to investigate the incident.
Pedestrian fatality
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Sunset Blvd and Saluda Woods Place (across from the Buff property) in West Columbia at approximately 5:30 a.m., Tuesday.
According to Fisher, Mr. Milton Timothy Decker, 53, of Columbia was walking across Sunset Blvd when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Sunset Blvd. Mr. Decker was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the collision. The driver and passenger of the vehicle remained on scene and were not injured.
The West Columbia Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
