Cayce’s Columbia Speedway exhibit is now open at the Cayce Historical Museum

The Historic Columbia Speedway exhibit is now open at the Cayce Historical Museum at 1800 12th St.

Historic Columbia Speedway was one of the “cradles of stock car” racing. It opened in 1948 and the track closed for racing in 1978. The track often hosted many of stock car greats including Richard Petty, David Pearson, Ned Jarrett, Junior Johnson to name a few.

“It was the first track to race under the lights. There are so many things that the Columbia Speedway did for Nascar.” says a former driver who attended opening night.
