New businesses are opening in West Columbia and the Meeting Street Artisan Market will soon operate under new hours.

The City of West Columbia’s Meeting Street Artisan Market hours will change beginning Aug. 6. The new hours will change to 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The hours on July 30 are from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. That is the last Saturday of the old schedule.

The Meeting Street Artisan Market is under the pavilion at 425 Meeting Street, West Columbia, in the Interactive Art Park near Savage Craft Ale Works and D’s Wings.

In addition to the new hours, a Thursday Night Edition of the Meeting Street Artisan Market will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p,m. on the second Thursday of each month.

If you’re hungry, you’re in luck. The West Columbia Fish Market is scheduled to open at 529 N. 12th St. Monday (Aug 1.) Van Lee Butler Jr. is the owner. He has spent the last few months getting the building ready to open.

West Columbia Fish Market will feature fresh seafood from the ocean, including shrimp, flounder, whiting, and scallops and perch. Catfish, oysters and chicken quarters are also on the menu. 

Are you a pet owner?

Woody’s Pet Supplies opened on July 11, in the Westland Square Shopping Center at 2250 – F on Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia. It’s beside Food Lion. Woody’s offers a dog bath and dog grooming. The store stocks a variety of dog and cat food, some of it from local producers. Woody’s has accessories and pet toys, too.

“Traffic has been good since we opened,” said Davis Funderburk, the owner of Woody’s. “I wanted to offer a local store for pet owners. We’re convenient and we want to include everything you need for your pets. I’m very glad to be a part of the West Columbia business community.”

The Tackle Box Bait and Tackle opened in June at 743 Meeting St. in West Columbia.

The Tackle Box is promoted as a friendly neighborhood hangout.
“We will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 4,” said Nancy Smith. She, and her family, own the building The Tackle Box is in. Chase “Ox” Durney owns the business. The Tackle Box is also scheduling a grand opening later, when there is cooler weather.

“We sell fish bait, red worms, night crawlers and crickets,” Smith said. The Tackle Box also has a bar and cold beer, can or draft, and wine. There’s also a pool table, a jukebox, games, and five TVs. Tackle Box hours are from 10:30 a.m. into the evening.

WE’s Meeting Street, at 735 Meeting St., opened in March.  It’s a private club and it’s open seven days a week. WE’s features entertainment on a regular basis. There’s Karaoke, pool and live music.
