West Columbia getting new energy efficient, higher quality street lights
The City of West Columbia is working with Dominion Energy to improve street lighting and save taxpayer dollars.
On Monday, Dominion Energy started replacing all publicly owned street lights with LED lights. This change is estimated to save approximately $9,000 per year on West Columbia’s lighting bill. The addition of the new lights is expected to be completed over the next few months. There are no upfront costs for the replacements.
Mayor Tem Miles stated, “We look forward to shining a new light on all the great things we have going on in West Columbia. We are excited for the monetary savings and overall energy consumption.”
The new lights have a communication node to automatically notify Dominion of failure with future capabilities of dimming and on/off controls. The upgraded lights will provide better lighting quality, fewer shadows, and a color impact closer to daylight.
