Richard Lundy, Championship Brookland-Cayce Softball Coach has died

Richard Lundy, legendary Brookland-Cayce softball coach has died. He passed away Saturday, Jan. 8.
He led Brookland-Cayce softball to four state championships during his long tenure at the school. He is a member of the BC Athletic Hall of Fame.

He was the BC softball coach from 1989 until 2011. Lundy also coached basketball and football as an assistant.
Lunday was praised as a coach and mentor to many. He also taught carpentry.

BC Alumnus Shane Roof thanked Lunday for teaching him: Roof posted: “I am lucky to of had you as a carpentry teacher. I was even lucky to somehow have you for a full four years at Brookland cayce. The knowledge that I can say I learned from you was incredible. You taught so much more than just carpentry. You also taught me how to grow up and be the best man and father I could be. I learned everything from you.”

After he left Brookland-Cayce, Lundy coached at White Knoll High School.

The White Knoll Softball Facebook Page reads: “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Coach Richard Lundy. Please keep our White Knoll (and former Brookland Cayce) softball families in your prayers as we navigate the coming days without his flashy smile and tender presence zipping around dragging our field and cracking jokes with our girls.”
