Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died as a result of a vehicle vs. a Lexington County Fire Engine on St. Matthews Road at approximately 6:10 PM on December 1, 2021 in Lexington County.
According to Coroner Fisher, Mr. Christopher Lykes Sr., 71, of Swansea was traveling southbound when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a Lexington County Fire Engine head on. Mr. Lykes, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. Two firemen were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
