Daniel Rickenmann elected mayor of Columbia
Daniel Rickenmann was elected mayor of Columbia, Tuesday. He defeated fellow councilmember Tameika Isaac Devine in a runoff election.
Cayce and West Columbia are close in proximity to Columbia, separated only by the Congaree River. Rickenmann will replace Steve Benjamin who has been the mayor of Columbia since July 2010.
Rickenmann got 52 percent of the vote and Devine received 48 percent. The vote count was 10,554 to 9,762. Rickenmann won by 792 votes.
Devine called Rickenmann after the results were published to congratulate him. He defeated fellow councilmember Tameika Isaac Devine in a runoff election.
