Steve Bullard sworn in as the new Cayce Fire Chief
It’s a new era for the Cayce Department of Public Safety.
Steve Bullard was sworn in as the Cayce Fire Chief, Tuesday just before noon.
Cayce now has a fire chief and a police chief.
Last week Chris Cowan was sworn in as Cayce’s Police Chief. Before the Cayce DPS had a director for both fire and police.
“It’s a dream come true,” Bullard said after his wife Kristan held a Bible while Cayce Department of Public Safety Director Byron Snellgrove, who is departing, administered the oath-of-office to the new chief.
Bullard came to Cayce in 2012, from Marion, where he began his career as a volunteer firefighter in 2007.
Cayce City Manager Tracy Hegler described Bullard as smart, calm and professional. Snellgrove said Bullard has worked very hard to earn the fire chief’s position and he deserves it.
Hegler said Bullard has earned many awards as a firefighter, including one for saving the life of an infant.
Bullard said Cayce is in the process of adding personnel, three battalion chief positions, to Cayce’s Fire unit. He also said he looks forward to the challenge of serparating the fire and police departments.
