Gamecocks, Brookland-Cayce and Gray score big football wins
It was a big weekend for some local football teams.
Not only did the Gamecocks come-from-behind, Saturday, in dramatic fashion, to defeat East Carolina, 20-17, high school football teams had a big weekend.
USC, down 14-0 at one time, is now 2-0 for the first time in almost 40 years with the ECU win.
High school teams did well, too.
No. 5 ranked Brookland-Cayce went on the road, Friday, and took a 42-to-35 win over No. 3 ranked Chapman. It was not easy. At one point in the game, the 3A Bearcats were down by 15 points.
BC Quarterback Tanner Staton threw for 405 yards and a touchdown. The Bearcats’ Skylar King had eight receptions for 161 yards and a TD. Jahmari Kennerly had six catches for 105 yards.
2A and second-ranked Gray Collegiate Academy defeated 5A Ridge View 28-to-18 undefeated Ridge View.
Ridge View was undefeated and ranked fifth in Class 5A before the game at Midlands Sports Complex in Pine Ridge. Gray goes to 4-0 with the win and Ridge View fell to 3-1.
It was the third time this season the Class 2A, second-ranked War Eagles defeated a ranked opponent from a higher classification.
In the win, Gray’s senior running back KZ Adams rushed for 210 yards and scored three touchdowns.
All of the news was not good for local teams. Airport suffered a 41-14 loss to Lexington.
