A new bakery is coming to West Columbia. Always Original Bakery is set to open in July at 501 Meeting St.

“I love to bake,” said Jay Dawson. He said the bakery will offer cakes, cupcakes, cookies, scones, and artisan breads, among other things. “Everything will be made here on-site. There will also be as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-sensitive options.

While Dawson does the baking, partner George Grogan will handle the marketing of the business. Grogan and Dawson are also married.

Dawson has 40 years of experience baking and he likes to get creative with his confectionary designs. He said the plan is to offer a variety every day. Nothing will be pre-made. It will be a pick-up and take-out bakery without seating.
