Former South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor announced Wednesday he is running for Columbia City Council.

Taylor is running for the District Four seat, that is currently held by Daniel Rickenmann. Rickenmann is running for Columbia mayor. Current Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin is not running for reelection.

Taylor’s office is in West Columbia in a building he renovated. He is the CEO of Southland Capital Partners, a development firm on State Street. He is building more than 30 new single-family houses in the Center Street – Augusta Street area. He is also behind many other development projects in West Columbia.

Columbia municipal elections are Nov. 2.
