City of West Columbia wins statewide award for reducing safety risks – Holds luncheon for employees
The City of West Columbia received the 2020 South Carolina Municipal Insurance Trust Risk Management Award.
To celebrate, the city’s more than 150 employees were treated to a luncheon, Wednesday.
West Columbia got the award because its employees have succeeded in reducing the frequency and severity of losses due to accidents. Each city department has a safety officer in it to help monitor potential risk issues. Reducing risks lowers the city’s insurance costs.
“West Columbia employees are dedicated, hardworking, professional, and caring,” said City Administrator Brian Carter. “We treat each other like family, and we help our WECO family remain safe. The members of our safety committee work tirelessly to promote safety in the workplace, and their commitment and service is second-to-none. I am proud that the wise decisions each employee makes daily has been recognized.”
The award was for cities with over 150 full and part-time employees, Assistant City Administrator Michelle Dickerson. She is also on the city’s Safety Committee.
