Tuesday, Aug. 11, is election day in a special Republican Primary to nominate a replacement for US Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) who died on July 9. There are 10 candidates in the GOP Primary.

The SC Election Commission reports that 19,906 voters cast ballots on Friday in statewide early voting for the U.S. Senate Special Republican Primary.

On Friday, the top four counties by ballots cast were:

• Greenville County – 2,024
• Horry County – 1,976
• Lexington County – 1,722
• Spartanburg County – 1,099

Key Reminders for Voters

COLUMBIA – As the South Carolina Election Commission (SEC) concludes the early voting period for the Special Republican Primary, with more than 61,000 votes already cast, the SEC is reminding voters of important information before heading to the polls on Election Day. 

Election Day

Who: Not every voter is eligible in this special primary. Voters who participated in the June Democratic Primary are not eligible to vote. Voters who participated in the June Republican Primary, or who did not vote in either party’s June primary, are eligible to vote in this special primary.

When: U.S. Senate Special Republican Primary will be held on Tuesday, August 11.

Time: Polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Anyone in line before 7:00 p.m. will be allowed to vote. 

Location: Before leaving home, voters should verify their polling locations, as some polling places may have changed for this August election. Voters can check their polling location on scVOTES.gov or contact their county voter registration office. 

What do I need to bring?: Voters will need to present one of the following forms of current and valid Photo IDs when checking in to vote. 

Acceptable Photo IDs include:

• S.C. Driver’s License
• S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles ID Card
• S.C. Voter Registration Card with Photo
• Federal Military ID
• U.S. Passport 

Absentee Voting Reminders

 Voters casting an absentee ballot must ensure it is returned to their county voter registration office no later than 7:00 p.m. on August 11 for it to be counted. 

• Be sure to sign the voter’s oath and have the return envelope witnessed by someone at least 18 years old who provides their address.
• Consider personally delivering your ballot to ensure it arrives on time. You may also have an authorized returnee who has completed the authorized returnee form return your ballot for you.
• Photo ID is required when returning the absentee ballot in person.
• You can track your absentee ballot at scVOTES.gov.
