Just before 6:30 Sunday morning Irmo Fire responded to a residential structure fire in the 300 block of Bayside Road.

When crews first got to the fire, they found heavy flames showing from a two story home and extending to the vegetation around the house. Crews from Lexington County Fire Service assisted Irmo crews in extinguishing the blaze.

The occupant of the home was able to escape unharmed. The home suffered extensive damage. Fire crews stayed on the scene managing hot spots for much of the morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
