Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the person who died in a house fire that occurred in the 700 block of Juniper Springs Road located in the Gilbert area of Lexington County on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at approximately 9:35 p.m.

Fisher states that Mr. Sherill W. Asbill, 85, of Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled at MUSC in Charleston.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office will continue to investigate this incident along with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s Arson Unit and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
