
Memorial Day is Monday – West Columbia commemorates the day at various locations
Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May. It became an official federal holiday in 1971. Each year on Memorial Day a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 p.m. local time.
Like the rest of the nation, West Columbia will honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Below are some of the places that observe Memorial Day with special activities.
West Columbia Memorial Day City Hall Closing Information
The City of West Columbia City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, May 26.
Sanitation Information: Yard trash will not be collected on the Monday.
Memorial Day – Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church
Memorial Day will be commemorated at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, 3011 Leaphart Road, West Columbia on Monday, May 25.
Pastor Gina Metze said the Lexington County Choral Society will lead the service with songs. It’s a salute to the US Army, Air Force, Marines, Nany and Coast Guard.
Savage Craft Ale Works
This Memorial Day, Savage Craft will be open as a place to gather, reflect, and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. As a veteran-owned establishment that proudly employs veterans, Savage Craft Ale Works is built on the values of service, commitment, and respect for tradition.
“We welcome families, friends, and our community to come together in remembrance of those we have lost and the freedoms they defended,” said Savage Craft Manager Victoria Porter.
Savage Craft will open at noon on Monday and a Fallen Soldier Table will be displayed throughout the day, with a ceremonial flag folding held at noon in tribute to our fallen heroes.
The 6th Annual South Congaree Memorial Day Remembrance Program
South Congaree Memorial Day Remembrance Program is a free event open to the public honoring our fallen soldiers. Enjoy special entertainment , guest speakers, World War II AirCraft, Do-Little Raider and other military vehicles.
The South Congaree Memorial Day Remembrance is an annual, free community event honoring fallen soldiers. Hosted by Congaree Cares, it features historical military exhibits, special guest speakers, and musical performances.

Fort Jackson Memorial Day Commemoration CeremonyThe Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia hosts a public Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony. It’s at 10 a.m. on Monday and features keynote remarks by senior military leadership, music by the Army Band, a wreath-laying ceremony, a rifle salute, and Taps.
Ceremony includes a formal remembrance program, a rifle salute, and Taps played in honor of the fallen.Parking & Admission: Free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 9:30 AM for the best seating near the flag assembly area.
