Brookland-Cayce Wrestlers Deontae Strader; Jonah Del Priore; and Terry Hildebrand honored by West Columbia City Council for championship season
The West Columbia City Council passed a resolution at its meeting Tuesday, recognizing the The Brookland-Cayce Varsity Wrestling Team for all of their accomplishments in the 2021 school year. Specifically recognized were Coach Craig Watts, wrestlers: Deontae Strader; Jonah Del Priore; and Terry Hildebrand II (all pictured) for their accomplishments.
Part of the resolution reads:
Brookland Cayce High School’s varsity wrestling team qualified for the state playoffs for the eighth time in 10 years under the leadership of Coach Craig Watts. The team had eleven wrestlers who qualified for the South Carolina High School League’s Wrestling State Class 3A Lower State Individual Tournament and three wrestlers who qualified for the South Carolina State Championship Tournament.
Deontae Strader is a senior at Brookland Cayce High School and is the son of Hermajesty McMillan. Deontae Strader finished his senior season with a 17-0 record, won Region Champion in the 220-pound weight class at the SC High School League’s Wrestling State Class 3A Lower State finals, and state champion in the 220-pound weight class at the SC High School League’s Wrestling Class 3A State Championship.
Jonah Del Priore is a senior at Brookland Cayce High School and is the son of Roco and Angel Del Priore. Jonah Del Priore finished his senior season with a 13-2 record, won Region Champion in the 170-pound weight class at the SC High School League’s Wrestling State Class 3A Lower State finals, and won state champion in the 170-pound weight class at the SC High School League’s Wrestling Class 3A State Championship.
Terry Hildebrand II is a junior at Brookland Cayce High School and is the son of Terry Hildebrand and Heidi Hildebrand. Terry Hildebrand II finished his wrestling season with a 15-4 record, placed third in the 145-pound weight class at the SC High School League’s Wrestling State Class 3A Lower State finals, and placed fourth in the 145-pound weight class at the SC High School League’s Wrestling Class 3A State Championship.
Deontae Strader and Jonah Del Priore were chosen to participate in the South Carolina Wrestling Coaches Association North/South All-Star Team and attended the High School Wrestling Nationals in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
