CWC Cares Foundation Rabbit Run 5K, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, raised $20,000, attracted close to 400 participants in year 3

The Greater CWC Chamber of Commerce (CWC Cares) Foundation held its third annual Rabbit Run 5K along the riverwalk of Cayce and West Columbia on April 4. The annual 5K is led by the Chamber Foundation, established to fund needs for education professionals, student scholarships, as well as assisting small businesses during an emergency.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina has served as the lead sponsor for the 5K, as Blue Cross recognizes the needs of the Foundation, while also appreciating a fund-raising activity that promotes health, both reasons falling well within their mission. Greg Waterstradt of Blue Cross said, “this event is a perfectly fit for Blue Cross, as it not only supports those who mold our future, but a run also promotes healthier communities”.

The first year of the 5K surpassed the expectations of its organizers. Well over 100 turned out to participate. And the race gained momentum in years tow and three, growing with runner and associated activities. This year there were 379 runners, and more than 1,000 people coming out in support of the runners. Brady R of Strictly Running who has helped design the program and works with other runs throughout South Carolina said: “This run has become one of the fastest growing and most recognized 5K’s in the midlands.”

The Easter weekend 5K is recognized as a time for family, which is exactly what the run continues to attract, with some coming from as far away as Florida and Ohio.

This year the Foundation raised approximately $20,000, which will go to the emergency needs of small business, as well as teachers and student scholarships.

Plan to attend the CWC Cares Foundation 5K next year, – and please consider donating to the worthy cause of this Foundation.
