Lexington 2 planning to build new school in South Congaree

Lexington School District Two is planning to build a new Congaree Elementary School at a cost of nearly $50 million.

The new school will have a capacity for around 800 students. Current capacity is about 450 students.

The new school would be built on property next to the current Congaree Elementary School after Lexington Two gets four acres of land traded with Lexington Medical Center and Lexington Medical Center gets the old George I. Pair Elementary School property on Platt Springs Road. That site is being rezoned from residential to commercial, by the City of West Columbia.

Plans are for the new Congaree Elementary School to be completed by the summer of 2029.
