Cayce-West Columbia Chamber Cares Foundation Riverwalk Rabbit Run 5K has record turnout

The Riverwalk Rabbit Run 5K, hosted by the Greater CWC Chamber Cares Foundation, took place Saturday on the Cayce–West Columbia Riverwalk. It started at the West Columbia Amphitheater and continued to the streets of Cayce and onto the Cayce Riverwalk, before coming back to the Amphitheater.

Chamber President and CEO Tim James was pleased with the turnout.

“Hundreds of runners, walkers and dogs came out to support the worthy cause of Greater CWC Chamber Foundation, that funds teachers and student scholarships and assists small businesses that fall upon a tragedy.

“With Blue Cross Blue Shield of SC as the lead sponsor for the third year, the event that included Easter Egg Hunts for the kids. It began at 8:30 a.m. with awards at 10 a.m.” James said. “The 5K included a run through the city corridors of State Street, River District and Art District, then on to the Riverwalk of Cayce and West Columbia to the finish line. Attendees from 7 years of age to 88 years of age enjoyed the run.
Our thanks to the sponsors and volunteers who made this event possible. Tim James, Chamber CEO says “it’s not often that you can enjoy the historical venues of a city, as well as the riverfront, all while doing something healthy and worthy for the community.”

Cayce City Councilman and Chamber Member Byron Thomas is an organizer of the event.

“We had 350 runners and walkers, Thomas said. “Saturday’s run marks our third consecutive year of record-breaking turnout for the C-WC Cares Riverwalk Rabbit Run presented by BlueCross BlueShield. This event continues to grow because of strong community support, and the proceeds go directly back into the community, funding scholarships for local students, grants for teachers to enhance academic achievement, and emergency support for small businesses when they need it most. We’re incredibly grateful to our presenting sponsor BlueCross BlueShield and our other supportive sponsors, the cities of Cayce and West Columbia, our first responders, our partners at Strictly Running, our volunteers, and everyone who showed up to make this event such a success.”
