Lexington County deputies have opened a homicide investigation after a man was found shot to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex near Lake Murray.

The shooting victim has been identified as Raynard Brewington, 43, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

“Mr. Brewington’s body was found near his apartment building before daylight early Monday morning,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “We responded to the location after receiving 911 calls from people who reported they heard what they said might be gunshots.”

Detectives have interviewed those 911 callers and other residents of the apartment complex in the 2200 block of Lake Murray Boulevard as part of their investigation, according to Koon.

“We have plans to continue to talk to neighbors and nearby businesses as part of our work on this case,” Koon said. “We encourage anyone with any information to come forward and share tips with us.”

Koon said anonymous tips can be shared on the Midlands Crimestoppers app. Those who share information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for a cash reward.
