1 A MLK day service

Day of Service in Cayce highlighted by street clean-up in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

There was a Day of Service in Cayce, Saturday, two days before the Federal Holiday to honor the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Cayce City Councilman Byron Thomas headed up the effort and US Rep. Joe Wilson joined in.

“Thank you to everyone who came out on this beautiful day for our litter clean-up in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” Thomas said.

Last year, more than 300 pounds of debris was collected on the day of service, Thomas said. He estimates that more than 500 pounds were collected this year.

Participants joined to clean up litter on: Hart Street; Poplar Street; Middle Street; Little Street; Hopkins Street; and Pond Street.

“It was truly a blessing to see community leaders, students from Brookland-Cayce High School’s Sustainability Club, athletes from Central Christian College, members of our City of Cayce foundations and commissions, U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson, and my family come together to pick up litter and Keep Cayce Clean.”
