Former Cayce City Councilman and Police Chief, Tim James, issues a statement upon the passing of former Cayce Police Chief A.G. Dantzler

Statement from Tim James: “Our community has lost an icon who had a positive influence on anyone he knew. Chief A.G. Dantzler knew he wanted to be a public servant from a teenager,- he began his career in 1959, working tirelessly as a police officer, and as a volunteer firemen. Years later when City leadership developed the Public Safety concept, he led the mission, as he was experienced in both disciplines. For years he was endeared and known as “Captain,” while he served as the Assistant Director of Public Safety of Police and Fire, ultimately assuming the role of Director where he set a pace that brought great recognition upon Cayce as a leader in police and fire services. Chief Dantzler exemplified “Community Policing” before it was known as a form of policing- as he had always led with heart and served the community with love, caring for those from all capacities and generations.
“Chief was a mentor to many, specifically me. He was indeed a father figure who cared about me and so many others, always wanting the best for others, while settling for less for himself. Assuming his position of Director of Public Safety was an honor for me, as I knew how much he loved his duty and the honor to serve- his heart continues to beat in many of us, whom he took time to grow.”
