West Columbia is attracting newcomers, see how to access residential services

The City of West Columbia is experiencing growth on an annual basis. According to US Census data, between 2010 and 2020, West Columbia’s population grew by 16.2 percent. It is one of the faster-growing municipalities in Lexington County.

West Columbia’s current population is approximately 18,643, notably higher than the 17,516 recorded in the 2020 Census.

The city is upgrading public spaces, roads, and sidewalks to support new development, with an emphasis on making the city easier to live in and do business with.  The City of West Columbia has invested in improvements by also adding parking, crosswalks, and shared-use paths for pedestrians and bikers.

West Columbia’s growth is characterized by new residential developments, like Brookland, Langley Pointe Luxury Apartments, St. Ann’s Alley, the Pinecrest Development, Flow Townhomes, and Stillwater Homes near the Augusta Road Corridor. A new brewery, Savage Craft Ale Works, and restaurants, like Black Rooster. Gathering places, including WECO Bottle and Biergarten, and Chayz Lounge have also been a part of the City’s growth in the River District.

Capital Square Shopping Center, a planned mixed-use development, will add to commercial and residential options.
