Lexington County to hold indigent burial service for 25 Tuesday
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher announced Friday that an Indigent Decedent Memorial and Burial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the County of Lexington Cemetery, 729 S. Lee Street, Batesburg, It is the first ceremony of its kind at this cemetery.
It is also the first county burial service in more than a year, because a public ceremony could not be held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related safety concerns
The cemetery in Batesburg was created to accommodate the growing need for a final resting place for indigent and unidentified decedents in Lexington County.
Fisher and her staff respectfully laid to rest forty-three individuals in 2020. Any known family members or friends were notified afterward and invited to pay their respects privately.
Twenty-five decedents will be honored and their cremated remains interred on April 20, 2021. Many of these individuals had no known relatives or friends; therefore, we are requesting the presence of anyone who would like to join us in extending compassion as they are laid to rest.
