Family of Chapin Mayor Al Koon asks voters to Write-In the name of Gregg White in Nov. 4, Municipal Election

Chapin Mayor Al Koon died at the age of 74, Friday, Oct. 17. Despite his death, Koon’s name will still appear on the Nov. 4 ballot because there was not enough time to remove his name from the ballot. A vote for Koon, will not count.

Gregg White

Therefore, the Family of Al Koon is asking voters to Write-In the name of Chapin Mayor Pro-Tem Gregg White as their choice for Chapin mayor. The family of Koon issued a letter (Below) Thursday explaining their reasons:

We would like to thank the entire Chapin community for the enormous support and love we have received following the passing of our father, Mayor Al Koon. Your kindness has been a source of comfort during this difficult time, and it’s a testament to the town he cherished so deeply.

As Town Councilman and Mayor, Dad was guided by a singular purpose: to safeguard Chapin’s future while honoring its history. He understood that thoughtful growth is essential to a thriving community, and he worked tirelessly to ensure Chapin could prosper without losing the character and charm that make it so special. Like the good engineer he was, he crafted plans to maintain that harmony between the past and the future.

Though he never saw himself as a politician, Dad had a clear and compelling vision for Chapin. His untimely passing leaves a void, not only in our lives, but on the ballot. There is no mayoral candidate on the ballot who shares his vision for our Town.

As his sons, and fellow sons of Chapin, we feel a deep responsibility to carry forward Dad’s legacy. That’s why we are asking you to consider the following choices on Election Day:

  • Town Council: please consider voting for Gregg White and Jerry Taylor.
  • Mayor: Please consider writing in Gregg White for Mayor.

We ask that you write in Gregg’s name in addition to voting for him for Town Council. If Gregg wins both elections, he will have the option to serve as Mayor, and Chapin voters may then select a new candidate to fill his Council seat.

Our hope is simple: to keep Chapin on the path Dad envisioned—a town that honors its roots while embracing a bright future. We believe Gregg and Jerry both share our father’s vision for the future and are well-equipped to continue our father’s work. We hope you’ll consider Gregg and Jerry on Election Day.

Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for standing with Chapin.
With gratitude,
Chris and Ryan Koon
