
South Congaree Police Chief experienced a medical event before crash

South Congaree Police Chief Steve Jonas experienced a medical event before the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line and struck another vehicle, according to Capt. Sonny Collins of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The SCHP investigated the crash involving Jonas. WIS-TV reported the medical emergency
The crash occurred on Wednesday at 6:12 p.m. on South Beltline Boulevard in Columbia. Chief Jonas was driving a South Congaree Police SUV and heading east when he crossed the center line and struck a GMC Terrain that was headed west. Three people in the GMC were taken to an area hospital.
Jonas, who was also taken to the hospital, was placed on administrative leave after the crash, while it was investigated.
