14-year-old arrested at Lexington 2 high school after gun is discovered, according to TV news report

A 14-year-old was arrested by Cayce Police for having a firearm at Brookland-Cayce High, Friday, according to WLTX-19. The teen has been taken to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice on a charge of unlawfully carrying a firearm.

The student was arrested after a loaded gun was found in his backpack.

According to WLTX, the gun was discovered after a tip led police to the student’s backpack, where they found the gun on Friday morning. The Lexington Two school district issued a statement (Below) regarding the incident around 3:30 p.m. Friday.

On Friday around mid-morning, Brookland-Cayce High School administrators and the School Resource Officer, alerted by a tip, acted immediately and located a student on campus. The student was taken to an administrator’s office, where a subsequent search of the student’s backpack revealed a handgun. 

The student was immediately taken into custody by law enforcement. The student will face district discipline in accordance with board policy and state law. 

The district thanks the individuals who reported the tip, allowing for swift and appropriate action by school administration and law enforcement.
