The second location of George Roberts Wine and Raw Oyster Bar is coming to State Street in Cayce, It’s upscale dining with affordable prices, extensive drink menu and fantastic specials.

Rob said the goal at George Roberts is to provide a unique and memorable dining experience. The restaurant will feature fresh raw and hot oysters, and carefully chosen wines, to create a  cozy atmosphere with delicious food and great drinks. Other menu items include: Lobster Rolls; Steaks, Artisan Pizzas, Pork Chops, Tacos, Salads and Entrees of chicken, salmon and shrimp and scallops.

There will be daily specials, too.  Anderson Chambers, formerly of Travinia’s, will be the General Manager of the George Roberts in Cayce. It is expected to open in November or December.

Rob knows what he is doing. He currently owns four, soon to be five, Carolina Wings locations, and the first George Roberts in Irmo. George Roberts is Rob’s full name. His wife Myra works in the restaurant organization and so do his sons, Carter and Josh.

Rob said George Roberts was inspired by the many oyster bars in Charleston. Rob went to culinary school in Charleston in the early 90s. His wife, Myra, is from Charleston. And they both love the oyster bar experience. He wants to bring that to Cayce. Bobby Alexander, President of Pyramid Contracting, is developing the site for the restaurant. He presented the Cayce property to Rob as the possible site for a restaurant. Bobby is a regular at the Irmo George Roberts.

Cayce Mayor Pro-Tem Tim James is looking forward to the addition.

“We are anxiously awaiting the opening of George Roberts,” James said. “Redevelopment and development are what our Cayce citizens have asked for, and we are beginning to see positive signs of our efforts. Over the last two years, there has been a concentrated effort to attract residential and business development. Throughout the Avenues area of Cayce you see several old buildings coming to life, as well as homes being built and refurbished. Specifically, Pyramid Contracting has dedicated themselves to the effort of reimagining the 1500 Block of State Street, where you will soon see other business sites, along with George Roberts, in an area of buildings that sat dormant for years.”

James also said he is impressed with the quality of the business. “George Roberts has a great reputation because of the other site in Irmo,” James said.” It’s known as a great location for food and fellowship, and that’s just what it will become in Cayce. Many thanks to Rob Schoolmeester. We are grateful for his faith in the Cayce community.” James thanked Bobby Alexander and Pyramid Contracting, too.

Rob said he has more than 30 years in the restaurant business and teamwork, with a loyal and dedicated staff, is the reason he has been able to succeed.

“I am thankful to everyone who has contributed to our success over the years,” he said. “Without a lot of great people, we could not have achieved the success we have.”
