Crews from Irmo Fire, Lexington County Fire, SC Fire Service, Columbia Fire Department and a dozer from the SC Forestry Commission were on the scene of a large vegetation fire at I-20 and I-26 (Malfunction Junction, Friday evening.
A large log piles caught on fire, sending a large plume of smoke into the evening sky, according to an Irmo Fire District Facebook post. The embers from the fire spread to an additional acre of ground cover and debris and it caught on fire.
The fire spectacle, slowed traffic in all directions and caused intermittent lane closures and delays in the area around 7 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
