AG Alan Wilson, who lives in Lexington County, announces he is running to be the state’s next governor

Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson made an official announcement Monday night that he is running to be the state’s next governor. The announcement was made at a campaign kickoff event at Hudson’s Smokehouse in Lexington. Wilson lives in Lexington County.

Wilson has served four terms as South Carolina’s attorney general He said eliminating income taxes, cutting fraud and waste in spending, at the state and local level, and enacting universal school choice will be the focus if he is elected governor.

Wilson described himself as a fighter and “a battle-tested conservative” and “a proven winner who will never stop until the job is done.”

Wilson’s father is SC Dist 2 US Rep. Joe Wilson.

The state’s nex governor will replace Gov. Henry McMaster, the state’s longest-serving governor, who is term-limited and cannot seek reelection.

Official filing for the gubernatorial election opens in March.
