“It is a great honor to be accepted for Piccolo Spoleto,” said Hite. The Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition highlights the recent work of distinguished artists from all over South Carolina featuring painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and photography.
Hite’s image entitled “Going Home v2” is the entry that was selected to be exhibited in Charleston.
This year is not the first time Hite’s work has been exhibited at Piccolo Spoleto. His entries were accepted in 2019 and 2022. Hite’s work has also been chosen three time for display at the prestigious ArtFields, a living art gallery in Lake City where talented artists of the Southeast are celebrated annually.
Hite, a retired surveyor, is also the Artist-of-the-Month at The Warehouse on State Street in West Columbia.
He said he is really looking forward to the exhibition at Piccolo Spoleto. His crescent moon photograph with Venus in the night sky of the SC State House dome was chosen for the cover of the 2015 Legislative Manual.
“There are a lot of very creative pieces to see,” Hite said. “It’s very inspirational. I like to look at the visual artwork of other artists. It gives you ideas.”
Hite became more of an artist almost 20 years ago. “In 2006, I decided to stop taking pictures and I began to take photographs,” he said.
You can find Hite and his work for sale at many local festivals, including Cayce’s Soiree on State and Soda City on Saturdays in Columbia. He said many people who visit tell him about interesting places to photograph, so he always has a project on his schedule.
