
Vehicle runs off interstate near the Broad River and catches fire, emergency crews on the scene
A vehicle went over the rail of I-126 near Elmwood Avenue, over the the Broad and Saluda rivers in Columbia, Wednesday afternoon. Emergency crews were on the scene above the bridge and on the ground. A Columbia Police report stated that a vehicle drove off the bridge on I-126 Westbound from Elmwood and caught fire just before the river. The car landed in the Broad River.
It was later reported the driver was taken to the hospital with “significant injuries.”
Two westbound lanes were closed for more than an hour while crews worked the site, including removing the vehicle from the river. Columbia Fire Dept photos
