Cayce Urgent Care serves almost 22,000 patients in its first year, USC College of Nursing open, says Lexington Medical Center’s Roger Sipe during C-WC Chamber Breakfast

Roger Sipe, senior VP of operations for Lexington Medical Center, addressed the Cayce-West Columbia Chamber Breakfast on the LMC – West Columbia campus, Tuesday.

He provided an update on some LMC projects.

Sipe said the new Cayce Urgent Care facility on Knox-Abbott Drive received 21,930 visits in its first year in operation. It opened on Jan. 3, 2024. The single day highest volume for the facility was 120 visits.

The University of South Carolina College of Nursing facility was completed in June of 2024 and took students in the Fall Semester that began on Aug. 20.

Sipe said 300-to-400 nursing students – juniors and seniors- will come to the Lexington Nursing Campus in West Columbia every day.

Sipe also said that LMC has opened 10 new facilities in the last year. One in Lexington and others in Richland County.

The main LMC hospital in West Columbia will add beds in 2025. It is now liscenced for 607 beds. That number will be close to 650 by the end of 2025.

Sipe also said Lexington is one of the counties in South Carolina experiencing an extremely high number of flu cases, above the state baseline. And South Carolina is one of three states with a very high number of flu cases.
