The number of people dying from COVID-related issues in South Carolina is dropping. South Carolina is currently in Phase 1B of the COVID vaccination process. As of Monday, 1.63 million have received at least one dose of a vaccine in South Carolina and 589,000 have been fully vaccinated, according to the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control.

In the first two days of this week, two people died of COVID or COVID-related illnesses, according to statistics released by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control. There were no COVID or COVID-related deaths on Monday and two on Tuesday. There were six COVID deaths on Sunday and 33 on Saturday.

The last date in which there were 40 or more COVID deaths was Feb. 25.
The number of people testing positive for COVID in the state is dropping too. On Tuesday, there were 383 positive COVID cases, and 310 new cases on Monday.

The last date in which there were 1,000 or more new cases was Feb 21.

In Phase 1B of the COVID vaccination process, those eligible for the vaccine are Individuals age 55 and up, individuals with increased risk for severe COVID-19 disease and people age 16-54 with one or more high-risk medical conditions. Frontline workers with increased occupational risk, that includes teachers, are also eligible.
