Sen. Nikki Setzler presented resolution from the City of Cayce in honor of his years of service
Cayce City Council presented a resolution in honor of Sen. Nikki Setzler at its council meeting, Tuesday.
Setzler, who did not run for re-election in 2024, ended 48 years of service as a state senator. He represented Cayce and West Columbia and a swath of Lexington County.
Setzler was presented the resolution thanking him for his service by Cayce Mayor Elise Partin.
Setzler worked as a Statehouse page at age 18 and won his first election in 1976, when he was age 30. He thanked Cayce and said he grew up on L Avenue in Cayce. He served as a Cayce City judge before becoming a state senator.
“Cayce has always been near and dear to me,” Setzler said. He also said he will still be accessible and he will work with the community.
Cayce City Councilman Tim James thanked Setzler.
“I do not believe in coincidences, but I do believe in the timing of some occurrences,” said James. “On the (election) evening that Senator Setzler was learning who he will pass the torch of his 48 year legacy to, he was celebrating for all he has done by the very city that he began it all in. This recognition for the Senator, Mrs. Setzler and the entire family is very well deserved.”
