Lexington 2 schools holding several Veteran recognition events beginning Wednesday

Lexington County area veterans are invited to recognition events at Lexington Two schools for Veterans Day.

The district, too, will host a free concert for the public at 6 p.m. November 11 at the Lexington Two Performing Arts Center, featuring Fort Jackson’s 282D Army Band.

Following is a sampling of programs; contact schools for additional information. All events are at the schools unless otherwise noted.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6

Riverbank Elementary: Veterans Day assembly, with student performances. 4K-2nd grades, 8 a.m.; 3rd-5th grades, 9 a.m. 160 Cougar Drive, West Columbia

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 8

Busbee Creative Arts Academy: Veterans Day program, with student performances by chorus, band, orchestra, theatre and dance groups. 9:15 a.m. 501 Bulldog Blvd., Cayce

Fulmer Middle School: Special student performances and presentations from chorus, band, strings, art students, with a special appearance by JROTC from Airport High School. Northside Middle School:  Breakfast for veterans, 8:30 a.m.-9:15 a.m. 157 Cougar Drive, West Columbia

Wood Elementary School: Parade for veterans, with 3K/4K-2nd grade students participating. Veterans Day program to follow, with a special appearance by the Airport High School JROTC. 8:30 a.m. 737 Pine Ridge Drive, West Columbia

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11

Fort Jackson’s 282D Army Band: Free concert for the community, 6 p.m. at the Lexington Two Performing Arts Center. Lexington Two students with JROTC and musical groups will help open the show. 3205 Platt Springs Road, Springdale

Congaree Elementary School: Veterans Day program, featuring student performances. 9:30 a.m. PTO will provide breakfast for veterans before the program. 1221 Ramblin Road, West Columbia

Brookland-Cayce High School: Veterans Day program, featuring a performance by the school’s Honor Choir as well as a featured speaker, Retired 1st Sgt. Alexander Baker. Veterans will receive a keepsake crafted by members of the choir. 1 p.m. 1300 State Street, Cayce

Springdale Elementary School: Veterans Day assembly and parade on the school playground. 1 p.m. 361 Wattling Road, Springdale 

Saluda River Academy for the Arts: Veterans Day assembly, from 8 a.m.-8:20 a.m. and 9 a.m.-9:20 a.m. Veterans also are invited to read to students throughout the school day (contact the school for information). In addition, students will be writing letters that will be shared with Operation Gratitude.  1520 Duke Street, West Columbia

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12

Airport High School: Veterans Day program to include tribute to soldiers, as well as performances by chorus, dance team, and SC State University performing arts students. 2 p.m. 1315 Boston Ave., West Columbia.
