West Columbia provides opportunity to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day – City publishes free parking video

St. Patrick’s Day, officially, is Wednesday and West Columbia is the place to celebrate.

The green was abundant and the Irish music poured from Savage Craft Ale Works as a part of their celebration Saturday.

Hot Mess Food Truck will be at WECO Bottle & Biergarten at 626 Meeting St. on St. Patrick’s Day, Wednesday.

“We’d love for everyone to come out and celebrate with us,” said Meredith Weir of WECO Bottle & Biergarten.

Savage Craft wanted to get a head start.

“We wanted to hold a St. Patrick’s Day event that the community could participate in,while taking all safety precautions,” said Victoria Porter, Savage Craft’s manager.

Porter said the response to St. Patrick’s Day event, that featured bands all day long, has been pleasing.

“People want to get out and we wanted to give them the chance to come to West Columbia,” Porter said. “It was a very good day for us.”

“I love this,” said Reed Spencer, who came to the St. Patrick’s party from Columbia. “I love Savage Craft, too. I really am thinking of moving over here because I love West Columbia.”

Porter said being responsible is part of having fun, too.

“Savage Craft staff met with the City of West Columbia Police Department, the City of West Columbia Fire Department and city staff,” Porter said.

Savage Craft’s staff wanted to be sure to abide by limitations on crowd size and the city’s mask mandate. She said the meeting was a good chance for Savage Craft to learn about its role.

“We’re building a community business and our prosperity is good for all businesses around us.”

She said Savage Craft wants a good relationship with local officials and that is the case.

“Working with the City of West Columbia has been amazing,” said Porter. “Mayor Tem (Miles) has been great, too.”

Because of the success of the St. Patrick’s Day event, Porter said Savage Craft is planning several more special events throughout the year.

The event Saturday also brought visitors to West Columbia’s Interactive Art Park that is right behind Savage Craft. Not far from the Art Park is New Brookland Tavern. It’s at 122 State St. and will feature specials on St. Patrick’s Day.
