Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who was killed in a vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday shortly before 10 a.m. The incident occurred at the intersection of Bethany Church Road and Boiling Springs Road.

According to Fisher, Mr. Phillip Auston Jones, 26, of West Columbia was pronounced dead at an area hospital on Friday due to his injuries. Mr. Jones was the rear passenger in a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Bethany Church Road when the driver disregarded the stop sign and collided with another vehicle in the intersection.

The other vehicle had been traveling northbound on Boiling Springs Road. Mr. Jones was not wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred. The driver and another occupant of the vehicle he was in, as well as the driver of the other vehicle, were transported to area hospitals.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
