Re: Schools and Offices Closed on Monday, September 30

Lexington Two is canceling school for all students and employees on Monday, September 30, due to ongoing impacts from Helene.

All schools and offices will be closed Monday. All extracurricular activities, sports events, and adult education classes are canceled as well.

In the wake of Helene, many Lexington Two employees and district families continue to be affected by power outages, home damage, as well as downed trees and power lines that are hindering travel within neighborhoods, along secondary roads, and around parts of the greater community.

Given ongoing power outages, and the challenges many employees and families are facing, eLearning is not an option for us on Monday.

Two things to note:

Meals: Lunch meals will be available for pickup on Monday between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Pine Ridge Middle, Cayce Elementary, and Riverbank Elementary. Any youth ages 18 and under get a free meal, and you do not have to be a student at one of those schools. Questions? Call (803) 739-8381.

Shelter: For families in need of a temporary shelter, we have been asked to share information about one at Greenview park in Columbia, 6700 David Street, phone  (803) 545-3300.

The decision to cancel classes is never made lightly. However, keeping people safe as they recover from this devastating storm is a priority, and we hope to alleviate some of the worry for our families and allow them the needed time to deal with ongoing recovery challenges.

We will update you about the school day schedule for Tuesday, October 1, on Monday afternoon. In the meantime, please be safe and take care of each other.
