Flooding predicted as Tropical Storm Debby moves into Lexington County, Tuesday
The risk of flooding is high in Lexington County as Tropical Storm Debby comes through and likely stays for the next three days.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be likely Tuesday with rain from the storm moving into Lexington County through the day. Rain will become widespread and heavy at times Tuesday night through Wednesday. Wind gusts up to 40 MPH are possible. A flood watch is in effect for much of Lexington County from Tuesday through Thursday evening due expected rainfall.
The heavy rainfall will likely result in areas of flash flooding, with the flooding of some streets. Significant river flooding is also expected. The forecast is for Lexington County to get 6-8 inches of rain. A sharp cutoff will exist west of the I-20 corridor, with less rain to the west, according to the National weather Service.
Forecasters say that once Debby reaches the South Carolina coastline, Tuesday afternoon, it will not move much over the next two days. The storm will continue to dump rain on many South Carolina counties. Rainfall totals of 20 inches or more are a possibility on the coast.
