Lexington County Fire Service battles brush fires over the weekend
Lexington County Fire Service crews were on the scene of brush fires over the weekend. After battling wild fires Friday, crews were back on the scene Saturday because the wild fire got outside of the fire breaks constructed Friday.
Lexington County EMS units and sheriff’s department personnel were also on the scene. Crews got the fire under control. Area residents can expect smoke conditions to persist in the area for the next couple of days.
The second significant incident happened in the Pelion area.
Around 2:13 pm, Saturday, when units from LCFS, LCEMS and LCSD were dispatched to a report of a brush fire that was threatening structures in the 100 block of Northcutt Road and 7000 block of Edmund Hwy (HWY 302) in the Pelion community.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fast moving brush fire and were able to contain the fire before it reached homes in the area.
The SC Forestry Commission was on the scene with Lexington County Fire crews and assisting with the incident.
Saturday, the scene was still active and motorists were asked to exercise caution when proceeding through the area because of the fire trucks moving in the area while shuttling water to the scene.
Also, area residents can expect smoke conditions to persist in the area throughout the remainder of the weekend.
