William “Bill” Mooneyhan
February 4, 1959 – February 27, 2021
West Columbia, South Carolina – Bill Mooneyhan, 62, loving and devoted husband of Laura H. Mooneyhan, of McSwain Drive West Columbia, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021, unexpectedly at his home.
Bill was born in Columbia, February 4, 1959, a son of the late Robert (Bob) Mooneyhan and Anne Price Mooneyhan. His grandparents were the late Levi S. and Ruth Mooneyhan and Dr. and Mrs. W.H. (Loubelle) Price.
Bill is survived by his wife Laura (Hiott); daughters, Emily Mooneyhan, Michelle Mooneyhan, and Charlene Mooneyhan; son Bill, Jr.; grandson David Lyell Jr.; sister, Kathy Mooneyhan Singleton, brother, Robert T. Mooneyhan Jr.; Mother-in-law, Charlene Russell; and any many adoring nieces, nephews and cousins.
After graduating from Airport High School in 1977, Bill continued to work at his family business. In December 2020 Mooneyhan’s Auto celebrated 40 years of service to the community. He was dedicated to his business and treating his customers like family.
To say Bill loved the City of West Columbia would be an understatement! He has been dubbed the unofficial Mayor and historian of West Columbia.
Bill lived a life of service to others. An enthusiastic, honest, hard worker in everything he did, he was a leader in countless civic endeavors. He served with passion on the West Columbia Planning Commission, the Beautification Foundation, one of the leaders of the recent revitalized River Business District, the Cayce West-Columbia Lions Club, one of the founders of Taste on the River, served on the board of the River’s Edge homeowner’s association, served on the board of the Greater Cayce – West Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored many charitable events throughout the year.
Dedicated to loving his family and friends he will be greatly missed, but his legacy and vision will live for many years to come. We can honor his legacy by living life to the fullest.
Services will be held outside at 2:00 pm Friday, March 5, 2021 at Providence Presbyterian Church, West Columbia, S.C., conducted by Rev. Dr. Michael Bragan with burial to follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens, West Columbia, SC.
The family will not have a formal visitation but friends and family are welcome to come and sign the register book Thursday March 4, 2021, between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington, S.C.
