Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a multi-vehicle accident in the 4300 block of Highway 321 in the Gaston area of Lexington County at approximately 2:10 p.m., Tuesday.

According to Fisher, Mr. Whiteford Cornell McWaters, 53, of Summerville, was traveling northbound on Highway 321 when he was struck head-on by a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane. Mr. McWaters, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
